A full and complete renovation of this beautiful family home set in the Berkshire village of Pangbourne. Pangbourne Project. Set in the beautiful West Berkshire village of Pangbourne, this property underwent an extensive renovation to create a modern and luxurious family dwelling. The house was taken back to its bare bones and redesigned to offer spacious, open plan living, whilst maintaining purposeful, defined areas within the home that function to facilitate everything family life has to offer. The client was keen to create a charming, yet unfussy feel to the interiors and by layering natural materials, textures and muted tones within the scheme, we were able to achieve this in this main living area. An appreciation to the rolling countryside which surrounds the home, was also kept at the forefront of the design. Full length curtains with a pretty cottage style header and three roman blinds set into the bay window, worked to accentuate the height of the ceiling and make a wonderful feature and focal point in the room. We chose two linens in subtle and complementary tones to work across all windows. Pairing blinds and curtains provides the ultimate window dressing, both aesthetically and functionally throughout the seasons, accommodating light and temperature change. The two fabrics were also used to create a further three blinds with contrasting borders to add interest and frame the outlook onto the gardens. These were set into the window reveals, maintaining a clean and seamless look and highlighting what is the most joyful, light and airy space.

A kitchen and hallway redesign at this property in the charming village of Whitchurch in Hampshire saw us transform the space into culinary haven with rustic charm, bursting to the brim with character and soul. Whitchurch Project. This kitchen and hallway project in the charming village of Whitchurch in Hampshire, has to be one of my favourite projects to date. This very small but unique space underwent a complete strip out, back to its bare bones and we embarked upon an extensive redesign. The brief was to turn a very dark, very dated, uninspiring galley kitchen and hallway, into somewhere that reflected the client & her style, whilst making reference to her previous and much loved home on the Isle of Wight. Other parts of the property had already undergone a tasteful renovation, creating a light and open plan living and dining space. This left the kitchen and hallway feeling disconnected and sticking out like a sore thumb! Avoiding much time there, she had lost her love for cooking and entertaining. For all these reasons, myself and the design team were wholly committed to changing this up and designing a space she could connect with and enjoy. The design required lots of thought and planning (often the case when space is tight) in order to make the most of each and every inch. We added interest and a feeling of space by switching heavy black wall units with well lit open shelving. This provided the perfect stage to house the clients' many treasures collected over the years. Astute budgeting allowed us to design and install bespoke joinery in both spaces and fill in the gaps, where necessary, with more affordable mainstream kitchen cabinetry. This approach steered the design away from a simple, off the shelf look and offered the opportunity to add all the details that sets a space apart and makes it sing! V- groove panelled under sink doors, solid aged brass hardware, bib taps and a butlers sink were the jewels on the crown! The hallway is now a light, airy and welcoming entrance which sets the scene for the rest of the property. We purposefully ran the colour scheme from there, into the kitchen, to open & connect the spaces. It houses fabulous storage and has a miniature boot room feel, perfect in a country setting. Peg coat hooks, overhead shelving, a large storage cupboard and a restful bench seat (with integrated cabinets) is the ideal spot to pop on your shoes, house a bag or two and store all life’s ‘best out of sight’ items. The house now has a new flow and a new feel. It’s light, bright and joyful and it was a complete pleasure to help make this happen for such a lovely client.

Great Shefford Project. This project in the village of Great Shefford in West Berkshire, encompassed the hall, stairs and landing, as well as the downstairs cloakroom of a large property built in the 90’s. The clients were keen to update the space, which hadn’t been touched for 15 years and needed a redesign. They had a real affinity for wallpaper and we decided on a classic Sanderson paper ‘Solaine Calico' for the hall, stairs and landing and added panelling to the lower half of the wall, to strike a balance between bold and calm. Farrow and Ball’s ‘String' provided the perfect paint partner to the paper, adding a pale and earthy feel which works particularly well in rooms connected to the outside. The home is nestled deep in the Lambourn valley, so a connection to the surrounding countryside was a must for the design. We ran the paper up onto the sloping walls to give a cocooned and enveloped feeing to the landing space and through into a redundant window recess. Our clients love for books became a leading factor in the design process. They had a random selection of older and very full bookcases, sat in front of eaves storage cupboards on the landing, which made the cupboards tricky to access and use. The idea to be able to easily get at this storage, whilst housing the many books, in new and very beautiful shelving, came to life when we created mobile, hinged bookshelves. The cupboards were then hidden, but fully accessible and the bespoke bookshelves became an eye catching focal point to the space. We built a window seat nestled in the recess between the book shelves and dressed the window with a sweet roman blind and adjacent matching library style wall lighting. The seat serves to hide the radiator and created a reading spot in front of a very special view out over the downs. This project really allowed for design freedom and creativity, working both to solve problems and enhance functionality, whilst of course looking lovelier than before - I think we hit the nail on the head!
